The Design and Development of an Error Tagging Tool using the Undergraduate Learner Translator Corpus Error Taxonomy

Noha Mohammad El-jasser.

Abstract
Leaner translator corpus is a promising area in translation studies. Yet, they require a substantial, collaborative and continuous work in order to be designed, developed and exploited. One of the resources in this area is the Undergraduate Learner Translator Corpus (ULTC). It is a parallel, multilingual corpus with more than 55 mln word-tokens. It comprises a main corpus and sub-corpora. To make the corpus more useful, this paper describes the tool designed and developed for error-tagging the ULTC. A taxonomy has been developed for tagging erroneous as well as positive choices. The tool is web-based and user-friendly. Though the design of the tool is comprehensive and could be used across the corpus, it is currently applied on the main corpus En-ArLTC as a preliminary step, and to make certain the tool is valid.

Key words: learner translator corpora – error-tagging tool – taxonomy – corpus – annotation -translation - metadata – tagset- tags
